Lotus Learners COVID-19 Best Practices

Lotus Learners is committed to creating a safe, healthy and welcoming environment for our little ones to learn, play and grow. In light of the recent coronavirus outbreak, we are taking a number of precautionary measures to make sure our home-based childcare settings offer a safe and reliable space for the care of our children. These measures and policy requirements have been carefully selected and adapted from a wide variety of private, state, and CDC resources pertaining to the care of children during this pandemic.

The health and safety of our children and staff will always be our number one priority

We appreciate parent’s concern about the safety of returning their children to preschool.

We request our parents to help us teach, model and reinforce healthy habits at home by fostering new civic duties around social distancing, sneeze/cough etiquette, personal hygiene and proper handwashing technique.

hygiene and sanitation

  • We have implemented strict handwashing guidelines for all staff and children. We wash hands for 20 seconds with soap to the tune of a fun song and then dry with a single use paper napkin.

  • We also teach children to avoid contact with one’s eyes, nose and mouth, and use tissue to wipe their nose and to cough/sneeze inside their elbow. We model and practice handwashing before and after eating, after coughing or sneezing, after playing outside, and after using the restroom.

  • We have implemented procedures to frequently clean and disinfect all high-touch surfaces, such as sink knobs, toilet handles, tables, door handles.

  • We try and introduce fresh outdoor air as much as possible

CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT PROCEDURES

  • All parents are requested to meet at the entryway for pick-up and drop-off of children and limit the time of each visit

  • Only one family at a time will be allowed to pick-up and drop-off. If a parent is already present at the entryway, we ask parents to wait their turn

  • Upon check-in, we will use a contactless thermometer to check parent and child temperatures. This thermometer will be subsequently cleaned with alcohol wipes after each use

  • If any student, parent or staff member has a recorded temperature of 100.4°F/38°C or higher, they will be asked to go home and not return to the facility until 72 hrs have elapsed with no further high temperature reading or associated symptoms

  • We will visually inspect children for signs of illness, which could include flushed cheeks, rapid breathing or difficulty breathing (without recent physical activity), fatigue, or extreme fussiness, and confirm that the child is not experiencing coughing or shortness of breath
